The Company
Since the late 1800s, the Cerulli Irelli family has owned the Estate located in the Pescaresi Hills. In the 1950s, Quintino began making wine using the grapes harvested from the Estate’s vineyards. This passion has been passed down from father to son, and we are now in the third generation, continuing to grow and produce quality wines. The vineyards, with their unique exposure between the sea, the Majella, and the Gran Sasso, are cultivated using traditional organic methods, focusing on the native Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Pecorino grapes. Merlot has also been added in recent years. The cellar, which has been newly renovated and is located within the ancient 14th-century Convent, produces DOC Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Pecorino, and Cerasuolo wines, as well as a single-varietal Merlot. All processes are carefully coordinated by Rocco De Leonardis.
The Estate includes two important historic buildings, the 11th-century Convent of San Panfilo Fuori Le Mura and the 16th-century Torre De Sterlich.
The fully organic agricultural company, under the brand Tenuta Pescarina, produces and markets wines from the region. Under the brand Convento San Panfilo, it produces and sells flour, extra virgin olive oil, pasta, and other seasonal products.
Today, as a family-run business spanning several generations, the company engages in the cultivation of 150 hectares (370 acres) of land, as well as the production and sale of wheat, extra virgin olive oil, wine, and other local products.
In adherence to environmental principles and the ancient rules of agricultural tradition, the decision was made to produce in an organic manner, without the use of chemicals, utilizing crop rotations and organic fertilizers.
With the Convento San Panfilo brand, a long-awaited ambition has finally been realized: transforming the raw materials of our land into genuine and flavorful food products that recall the tastes of tradition.
With the Tenuta Pescarina brand, we continue the project initiated and desired in the 1950s by Quintino, with the wine of the Convent, developed and expanded by his son Filippo and his nephew Francesco.
